All the sale bulls this year are by Bluestone 797. He is by Rosevale Jethro J208, an Australian bull out of a Dangarfield Tornado cow, so Australian genetics on both sides. The bulls are small again this year, which is disappointing. There is a definite lack of genetics available in New Zealand, the NZ Santa Association has closed down due to a lack of breeders/income so the future of the breed in this country is uncertain, they are certainly becoming a rare breed.

I always get enquiries for females for sale, given the numbers, we do not sell females and breeding up from purchased bulls or semen is what I usually recommend. The females that are good enough to breed from stay here and those that aren't are culled, with so few numbers we need to be concentrating on quality, even though it is tempting to concentrate on numbers.

The cattle continue to perform, especially on rough feed and in drought conditions. We do have some new genetics coming up next year from unrelated cattle that we bought last year.
