Springtime is busy for any farmer and it's no diffrent here at Glenrossie. Labour weekend sees us docking lambs to take advantage of the good weather. Northland has had a rather wet spring and the grass is growing in response. We haven't had the usual drying southwesterly winds, although in the last week the wind has been packing a punch. Cattle prices have been high, with yearling beef cattle making $900 at Kauri Sale recently. Sheep prices seem to be holding up also, so here's hoping for another great season for the sheep and beef farmers. I finally managed to get out on a fine day to take some photos of this year's calves. They are looking good and with plenty of feed around they are growing very well. The bulls went out a few days ago. We have three new bulls this year so it will be interesting to see how the new bloodlines we are introducing work with our herd. Finding stud bulls that fit our breeding plan is always a challenge and we made a concerted effort last year to see some more bulls around the country and hopefully acquire some future sires that will enhance our cattle within our breeding goals - structural soundness with conformation, muscle and temperament. As always, if you have any questions, comments or news please contact us. Until next time...
